Maintenance Service
The Maintenance Service is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the building, all its facilities and equipment. It has been in operation since 1991, when the Institute moved to the new building. They are also responsible for all equipment, materials and tools (mechanical, electronic and electrical) available to all ICMAB staff.
As every year, the Maintenance Service has carried out preventive maintenance and direct or indirect repairs of multiple breakdowns, and has been in charge of installing new equipment and facilities.
Work during the lockdown
It is worth highlighting its work carried out during the total lockdown that occurred in the spring of 2020. The maintenance service, like many other services that make up the ICMAB-CSIC infrastructure, has been key to managing the operation of the most delicate equipment and systems that must always be kept in operation, as well as for the adaptation of the center to the health situation that occurred during the lockdown and their subsequent return to face-to-face or hybrid work situations.
Throughout 2020 there have been countless actions managed or carried out by the service itself or by contracted companies. For example: The old general air conditioners of the ICMAB were replaced, pending intervention of the PAI 2019. The laboratories and dispatch 3.22a, 3.22b, 2.8, 2.14a and 2.14b have become climatically independent. The location of the Mosbaüer equipment has been changed to Laboratory 0.16 and as a consequence Laboratory 0.27 has been completely remodeled. The floor pavement of the 3rd floor has been repaired, all the joints of the metal panels that make up part of the building's façade, the outdoor terrace, the changing rooms and showers and the entire cornice have been covered with galvanized sheets to improve its stability and durability among other things.
And with the great help of José Calvo, a new colleague from general services, it has been possible to carry out the last phases of the public tender for cabinets and furniture corresponding to the clean room-type laboratories associated with the ERC-Nest and ERC-Tmol4Trans projects. As well as the retrofit of the old office 3.17 to a new laboratory.
Sustainability and Environment Committee
It is important to say that during 2020 the Sustainability and Environment committee was born. Due to its birth, the maintenance team with the support of the IT and Communication service has carried out an improvement in the management of urban or non-hazardous waste by installing a network of selective collection containers throughout the center, all together with an awareness campaign.
Finally, from the maintenance team at ICMAB-CSIC we thank the collaboration of many people and workers in our day to day and especially the cleaning, reception and surveillance services; Indispensable and essential services always and fundamental in 2020.
